Job description:
The International Institute of Physics (IIP) invites applications for a one-year Visiting Position in Theoretical Physics for the academic year 2025-2026, starting as soon as possible in partnership with the Simons Foundation (USA). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage in research across various existing areas at IIP, including mathematical physics, string theory, particle and astroparticle physics, strongly correlated systems, statistical physics, and quantum computing or quantum information. Selection will be based primarily on the candidate's ability to conduct independent research, though alignment with the interests of at least one of our faculty members will be viewed favorably. We encourage applications from women and candidates from underrepresented minorities.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have the potential to become a permanent group leader at the IIP. This initial position is intended as a long-term opportunity and may be renewed based on internal evaluations and available funding. In addition to outstanding qualifications for conducting independent research, the successful candidate should demonstrate a commitment to mentoring and collaborating with other researchers at the Institute. Applicants with a faculty position who are on a sabbatical leave can also apply for this position. Depending on the qualifications of the candidate, this position might also include the budget to hire a postdoctoral researcher.
Stipend support will vary based on the length of the visit and the financial contributions from the visitor's home institution or external fellowships. Visiting professors are expected to pursue their own research while actively contributing to the vibrant research environment at the IIP, enhancing the experience for all research associates and students.

IIP is an international research institute focused on the frontier of theoretical physics that regularly hosts visitors and topical workshops. IIP is located in the touristic city of Natal-Brazil, where the traditional ICHEP 2026 conference will take place.

Applicants must send their CV including a publications list, a research statement (limited to three pages, including current and future research interests), and three recommendation letters. All materials should be compressed into ONE PDF file. Applications must be received by November 9th. Inquiries regarding the application process may be sent to farinaldo.queiroz@ufrn.br

The position will remain open until filled.

The application should be merged into one PDF file and sent to:
