Deadline on Dec 20, 2024
Job description:
The ATLAS group at CEA Paris-Saclay (Irfu/DPhP) is opening a two-year post-doc position to work on the ATLAS experiment, with a substantial portion of the work dedicated to the ITk pixel upgrade project.

The CEA group has been involved in the ATLAS experiment since its origins. Its expertise spans both detector and reconstruction aspects (including calorimeter trigger, muon reconstruction, muon alignment, electron and photon calibration, database management, data preparation, and luminosity) and physics analyses, with a strong expertise in electroweak, top quark, and Higgs boson physics. In addition, the group actively takes part in the phase 2 upgrades of the electromagnetic calorimeter trigger and of the central inner tracker (ITk).

The CEA group is involved in the ITk project through a collaboration with two other institutes within the Paris area (LPNHE-Paris and IJCLab-Orsay). Together, they are responsible for assembling and testing 33% of the ITk pixel quadruplet modules for the outer barrel. It corresponds to about 2200 modules to be delivered to the collaboration by 2026.

The successful candidate is expected to play a leading role during the module production.  His/her main tasks will include the daily monitoring of the production and frequent interactions with the technical team operating the production line. His/her activities will also cover process optimization and module quality monitoring. Depending on the candidate’s interests, a participation to system tests at CERN or test beams activities as a module expert may also be considered.

A fraction of the candidate time will be allocated to analyse LHC Run 3 data, by joining the Higgs-top analysis efforts in the group.

Highly qualified and motivated applicants should have a Ph.D. in experimental particle physics by the time of appointment and ideally some experience in detector operation and/or instrumentation. Being able to communicate in French with the technical team is an asset although not mandatory. They should send, by December 20th 2024, a curriculum vitae that includes a description of the research experience, a list of publications, and a motivation letter. The applications should be sent via email to Frédéric Déliot (frederic.deliot@cern.ch ). They should also arrange to have at least two letters of recommendation sent to the same email address.
Letters of Reference should be sent to:
