Job description:
The Dark Matter group in the Department of Physics at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor invites applications for an outstanding postdoctoral research fellow to work on experimental direct searches for dark matter.

The U-M Dark Matter group is deeply involved in the LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) dark matter experiment and has specific roles related to the experiment’s neutron veto system and its inline radon removal system. Locally, the group operates a liquid xenon detector testbed system to explore novel calibration/detection techniques and make fundamental xenon response measurements. Additionally, the group is acquiring a dilution refrigerator to facilitate R&D towards detection of low-mass dark matter candidates, and we welcome applications with specific expertise and interest in this area.

Applicants must have a PhD in physics prior to the research fellow appointment start date, and have a background of demonstrated excellence in experimental nuclear, high-energy or related physics research. The initial appointment as a Research Fellow is for one year with the possibility of annual renewal for up to three years, contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding.

Applicants should send a brief research statement describing their past experience and future interests, a curriculum vitae, and arrange for at least three letters of reference to be sent to haselsco@umich.edu.

Review of applications will begin Feb 1, 2025, and continue until the position has been filled. For general information about this position or any questions, please contact Prof. Scott Haselschwardt at haselsco@umich.edu.

The University of Michigan conducts background checks on all job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background checks. Background checks are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The candidate must be eligible for employment in the United States at the time of the start date. Continued employment is contingent on maintaining valid immigration status.

The University of Michigan is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
