Title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Experimental Particle Physics
Department: Physics and Astronomy
Faculty: Science
Salary: $62,000 CAD per year minimum plus benefits. Adjusted with qualification and experience. Reimbursement of one-time relocation expenses will also be available at the start of the contract.
Expected Start Date: July 1, 2025. Earlier or later start dates can be negotiated.
The Belle II group at the University of Manitoba (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Experimental Particle Physics working on the Belle II Experiment. The position is full-time and for two years with the possibility of extension for a third year. The successful applicant will be based at the University of Manitoba. Funds are available to regularly attend and present results at Belle II Collaboration meetings.
The Manitoba Belle II group is leading Belle II physics analyses in the areas of Low Multiplicity and Dark Sector Physics, including searches for low mass dark photons and precision cross-section measurements of reactions with neutral hadrons in the final state. Our group is also contributing Belle II neutrals performance, electromagnetic calorimeter calibrations, and the Chiral Belle upgrade.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will lead Belle II physics analysis activities that are complementary to the group’s ongoing efforts in dark sector physics and precision measurements involving neutral hadrons. In addition to analysis of Belle II collision data, the successful candidate will be expected to take a leading role in Belle II neutrals performance and/or electromagnetic calorimeter calibration activities.
Qualifications:
Applicants are required to have a PhD in experimental particle physics within the three years prior to the time of the appointment. Experience in particle physics analysis and programming in python and C++ is essential. Applicants should demonstrate proficiency in scientific communication and previous engagement in particle physics collaborations. Experience in particle detector operations and simulation with GEANT4 will be useful for this position.
To Apply:
Candidates should send to Dr. Savino Longo, Savino.Longo@umanitoba.ca, a single pdf document containing:
- CV with list of publications
- 2-page description of research interests
Candidates should also arrange for at least three letters of reference to be sent by the letter writer to the email above.
Review of applications will begin on April 10, 2025, and continue until the position is filled. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. In evaluating applications, accommodations will be made for any stated career interruptions or other extenuating circumstances.
