Job description:
The Department of Nuclear and Particle Physics (DPNC) at the University of Geneva is a dynamic department known for major contributions in various fields of particle physics. As part of the FASER group’s research, we are developing a new FASER-CAL detector prototype aimed at studying high-energy neutrinos at CERN. For this, we are looking for a Junior Electronics Engineer, ideally with 1–2 years of experience in VHDL design and FPGA system-on-chip (SoC) development.

Role & Responsibilities:
* Work within a multidisciplinary R&D team alongside electronics, software, mechanical, and physics specialists.
* Define specifications, develop, simulate, test, and document VHDL and C/C++ firmware blocks for FPGA SoCs.
* Support researchers in commissioning the system.
* Contribute to scientific publications and potentially present at national and international conferences.

Required Profile:
* Degree in electronic engineering.
* At least 1 year of relevant experience.
* Proficiency in VHDL, C, and C++.
* Experience with FPGA design, microcontrollers, SoC development, and simulation.
* Good knowledge of Linux (the SoC operating system).
* Familiarity with standard office software tools.
* Strong team integration skills within a multidisciplinary environment.
* Fluency in English (working language of the research group) or French, with the ability to learn the other quickly.
* Demonstrated initiative and autonomy.

Contract & Location:
* Position available immediately. 
* 1-year contract at 80%–100% workload.
* Location: University of Geneva.
