Abstract: (APS)
A factorization property of the multiparticle S matrix into a product of two-body S matrices has been recently conjectured and used in the study of various important models of field theory in two-dimensional space-time. This property is here proved from the general axiomatic properties of the S matrix together with certain specific properties of the models under consideration.
