Abstract: (Elsevier)
Various contributions to the difference between the ground-state energies of the mirror nuclei 41 Sc and 41 Ca are evaluated, with particular emphasis on the effect of the Coulomb induced neutron-proton density difference in the core. The resulting theoretical energy difference is 0.58 MeV less than the observed difference. It is argued that it is unreasonable to attempt to resolve this discrepancy by changing the radius of the valence wave function and that the most plausible explanation is the small charge asymmetry of the nuclear force.
