Hot nuclear matter is considered in a quantum statistical approach taking into account the formation of clusters. The equation of state predicts a first order phase transition below the critical temperature T c ≈20MeV. The characteristic behaviour of the light cluster abundances are in tentative agreement with experimental data and might reflect the appearance of this first order phase transition.
