Abstract: (Elsevier)
A fully self-consistent calculation of nuclear response in the giant resonance region for closed-shell nuclei 16 O through 208 Pb is presented. The finite-range density-dependent interaction D1 has been utilized. Particular attention has been given to the momentum transfer dependence and thus the electromagnetic transition operator exp ( iq · r ) has been considered. Corresponding energy-weighted sum rules have been evaluated to ascertain the relevance of the calculated response. The correctness of transition densities for known resonances has made it possible to suggest the existence of several other resonances in the higher frequency region presently accessible experimentally.References(52)
