Abstract: (Elsevier)

The speculation about the α-structure in nuclei has a long history. A lot of theoretical as well as experimental effort has been devoted to this question. In this letter, we should like to present a remarkable correlation within the two-nucleon separation energies extending from A = 4 up to A = 72. It is interpreted as empirical evidence in favor of the existence of the α-structure in nuclei. Then, once again based on (less remarkable) empirical evidence, we speculate on a possible geometrical interpretation.
