Abstract: (Elsevier)

The heavy ion reactions 144 Sm( 12 C, 10 Be) 146 Gd and 144 Sm( 12 C, 9 Be) 147 Gd have been used to measure the masses of 146 Gd and 147 Gd. The results show that the proton gap at Z =64 for 146 Gd is approximately the same size as the N =82 neutron gap in this nucleus.
