Abstract: (Elsevier)
In this paper we propose the use of angular-momentum-projected generator coordinator method (GCM) wave functions for the evaluation of transition probabilities in heavy nuclei. We derive the relevant equations and discuss ways to cope with the technical difficulties which appear in the application of the theory. We show the feasibility of the method by applying it to the calculation of B (E3) transition probabilities in light nuclei within the GCM, in the gaussian overlap approximation (GOA). In the calculations we use the density-dependent Gogny force. The theoretical projected results are in much better agreement with experiment than the unprojected ones.
