Abstract: (Elsevier)
It is shown that one-loop covariant counterterms for a class of N = 2 supersymmetric nonlinear σ-models with a Wess-Zumino-Witten term in two dimensions, calculated using an N = 1 superspace background-field method and the normal coordinate expansion, possess both supersymmetries of the classical action when the fields are on-shell. The full one-loop counter-action calculated with this method agrees with that calculated using a manifestly N = 2 supersymmetric perturbation theory. Members of a subclass of these models with N = 4 supersymmetry are shown ti be finite at one loop.
