Abstract: (Elsevier)
Two different descriptions of membrane dynamics are proposed. One is given by a lagrangian L ∝√( ∂ μ φ ) 2 with single scalar field φ ( x ). The other is described by four-component scalar fields in the three-dimensional background gravitational field with cosmological term. Classical solutions and methods for evaluating the N -point function of membrane scattering are studied in these models. A functional equation satisfied by a variable describing membrane excitation is studied in gauge theories. The equation gives that of a quantized membrane theory under an assumption of abelian-like monopole condensation.- field theory: scalar
