Abstract: (APS)
Using Monte Carlo methods and the icosahedral approximation to SU(2), the heavy quark potential has been determined for SU(2) lattice gauge theory. The range of distances covered is 0.05 fm to 1 fm for a string tension of 400 MeV. The results are compared to perturbation theory, string theory, and the phenomenological potential of Martin. A simple Coulomb plus linear form gives a good overall representation of the potential.- gauge field theory: SU(2)
