Abstract: (Elsevier)
In the confined phase of an SU( N ) gauge theory finite energy bound clusters of n q quarks and n q antiquarks occur only if the N -ality ( n q − n q ) mod N =0. In the deconfined phase there is no such restriction. We argue that this feature permits the construction of order parameters in the microcanomical ensemble that vanish in the confined phase and become finite in the deconfined phase.- QUARK: CONFINEMENT
