Abstract: (Elsevier)
This paper summarizes the Gatchina results on 1 GeV proton elastic scattering from spherical nuclei. Some features of the experiments are discussed. A good description of the experimental differential cross sections has been obtained using the Glauber formalism and neutron and matter distributions have been found by fitting the data. Experimental and theoretical uncertainties of the deduced nuclear density parameters are estimated. The polarizations measured for a number of nuclei are satisfactorily described with one set of spin-orbit parameters. The spin-orbit corrections are shown to have very small effects on the deduced nuclear densities.- Nuclear reactions
