Abstract: (Elsevier)
We analyze the thermodynamics of nuclear fragmentation and the time evolution of the nuclear matter during the final expansion. We obtain the values of the thermodynamic variables at and after the breakup, find an equation governing the expansion, and study the times for the relevant processes (evaporative processes, spatial expansion, and thermal interactions of single nucleons). We conclude that the final expansion will happen without thermal interaction of the components of the liquid-gas mixture, and that the observed fragment distribution is directly related to the state of the system immediately after fragmentation.- NUCLEAR REACTION: FRAGMENTATION
