Abstract: (Elsevier)
We compute the Casimir energy of an 11-dimensional Green-Schwarz supermembrane, generalizing the calculations of Kikkawa and Yamasaki for the bosonic membrane. We find a nonvanishing result. Assuming a simple relation between angular momentum and energy similar to that of the bosonic membrane, we conclude that such supermembranes do not contain massless particles.- MODEL: MEMBRANE
