Within the framework of a simple scalar-gauge theory in general relativity, we consider the vortex-type solutions representing infinite straight cosmic strings. The lower bound of energy can be attained when a particular relation between the coupling constants is satisfied. In this case, we determine exactly the asymptotic metric in terms of the energy of these solutions.- astrophysics
