Abstract: (Elsevier)
Motivated by supersymmetric theories, we consider the possibility that weakly interacting massive particles, χ, perhaps making the dark matter of the universe, are long lived, but not completely stable ( τ χ > H 0 −1 ). In condition of relatively low density, and depending on the actual value of τ χ , χ -decays may give better signals than χ -annihilations. Under reasonable assumption, from the study of isotropic γ -rays, cosmic rays and diffuse X-rays, we can set a lower bound on the χ -lifetime, τ χ ⪆10 25 −10 26 s . In fact, if the actual value of τ χ is close to this bound, several expected different signals can approach, or even saturate, the level of present observations.
