Abstract: (APS)
We calculate the electromagnetic polarizabilities of the charged and neutral pions and kaons within the framework of a generalized SU(3) Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. We obtain strong constraints on the results from chiral symmetry. The possible effects of nonlinearities in the strange-current-quark mass are studied. The values obtained for the charged-pion electromagnetic polarizabilities are within the error bars of the experimental ones. We predict charged-kaon electromagnetic polarizabilities of the order of 10−4 fm3, whereas the ones of the neutral pion and kaon are an order of magnitude smaller.
