Abstract: (Elsevier)
We consider a class of exact solutions to string theory which have a compact direction whose radius is time dependent. We investigate whether there is some analog of the duality symmetry found in static solutions. It is shown that simply replacing the radius R by α ′/ R at each time does not even satisfy the classical field equations. A more general transformation does yield a solution, but it is shown to be inequivalent. It is argued that no duality symmetry exists for these spacetimes.- string model
