Abstract: (Springer)
In this paper we study an electron cooling experiment in a quite different thermodynamical regime, with respect to standard experiments. A GaAs photocathode and adiabatic acceleration allow us the construction of a very cold electron beam. In such a beam the longitudinal temperature is lower than the potential energy between two electrons of the beam. The expected behaviour of the friction force, as well as a sketch of the experimental apparatus, with particular emphasis on the laser-induced electron source, are given.- BEAM COOLING: ELECTRON COOLING
- ELECTRON COOLING: BEAM COOLING
- RADIATION: LASER
- PARTICLE SOURCE: LASER
- LINEAR ACCELERATOR
- ACCELERATOR: COLLECTIVE
- ACCELERATION: ADIABATIC
- TEMPERATURE: LONGITUDINAL
