Two S-wave resonances in π N scattering are obtained from the SU(3) extension of the Skyrme model when explicit σ -mesons are included. The lower resonance stems from the coupling to the η N channel and thus is identified with the experimentally observed S11 (1535). The higher partial waves turn out to be similar to previous results.
