Abstract: (Elsevier)
It is shown that the charged pion-photon coupling, in the region between two heavy nuclei while colliding, gives rise to a photon mass. Independently of this, when there is a neutral pion condensation (also in the region between the heavy nuclei) as well, a mass arises from a Chern-Simons type term. However, when both these effects are considered together, photons having a multiple mass spectrum are generated. It is thus suggestive that the decay of the “heavy” photons into e + e − could provide an explanation of the anomalous multiple e + e − MeV peaks observed in heavy ion scattering.- photon: mass generation
