Spin effects in pion scattering by nitrogen

The vector analyzing powers were calculated in the Δ 33 -resonance region for elastic pion scattering by 14 N and 15 N nuclei and also for pion charge-exchange scattering by 15 N. We used an optical model, which reproduces well the differential cross sections for pion elastic and charge-exchange scattering by nonpolarized nuclei. Gross features of the vector analyzing power are discussed and its sensitivity to the underlying nuclear structure is studied in the case of several p-shell nuclei. Large discrepancies were observed between the calculated and measured iT 11 for π + - 15 N elastic scattering, the origin of which was not found.- pi light nucleus: elastic scattering
