Abstract: (Elsevier)
We consider the possible implications of a top quark mass in the range of 100–200 GeV for dynamical symmetry breaking. A value of m t in this range would be too small for theories in which electroweak symmetry is broken dynamically by a condensate of top quarks 〈 t t〉 ≠ 0 . On the other hand such a value of m t is too large for single scale extended technicolor theories. We are led to combine the idea of a dynamical top quark with extended technicolor to provide a consistent description of the top quark in this mass range. The model predicts a triplet of physical pseudoscalar “pions” associated with (t, b) quarks with a mass of ∼ 20 GeV- model: technicolor
