Abstract: (Elsevier)
We consider the solution of the Lipatov integral equation in the case of zero momentum transfer, q 2 = 0. After discussing the character of the eigenfunctions and the nature of the leading singularity in the case of both a fixed and running gauge coupling, we consider the effects of different ways of cutting off the infrared singularity in the perturbative gluon propagator, and present a model for the behaviour of the leading eigenvalues which is valid for a wide class of propagators and couplings. We conclude with the results of numerical investigation of the solutions of the equation for a variety of different gluon propagators, and briefly consider how the actual numerical values of the leading eigenvalues relate to physical scattering processes.- Lipatov equation: solution
