Abstract: (ADS)
Models for the transfer of ultraviolet, visual, and near-infrared radiation within a variety of spherical geometries are presented which are intended to approximate different types of dusty environments within galaxies. Objects approximated by these models include normal and 'starbust galaxies', active galactic nuclei and QSOs, colliding systems with a widely dispersed interstellar medium, and elliptical galaxies. The models are based on a complete spherically symmetric 3D Monte Carlo simulation which covers a large range of dust optical depths for 10 photometric bands. It is calculated that 'bluing' due to scattering partially compensates for reddening by extinction. It is considered to be an effective process that reduces some observational consequencies of large amounts of dust so that common techniques for estimating the amount of dust fail by large factors.References(0)
