Abstract: (Elsevier)
The two-neutrino double-beta-decay transitions of 76 Ge and 136 Xe to the ground and excited states of the nuclei 76 Se and 136 Ba, respectively, are calculated using a separable proton-neutron interaction. The corresponding nuclear matrix elements are computed by using the quasiparticle random-phase approximation (QRPA). In addition, the coupling between quasiparticles and QRPA phonons, both of the charge-conserving and charge-non-conserving type, is included perturbatively in the calculation of double-beta-decay observables. It is found that these corrections do not change, significantly, the order of magnitude of the matrix elements for the two-neutrino double-beta-decay transitions to the first excited quadrupole state of the daughter nuclei.- double-beta decay: (2neutrino)
