Performing a relativistic approximation of the Klein-Gordon equation the interaction of matter with light in the presence of a gravitational field is treated. One main result is that the electric dipole coupling remains unchanged provided the electric field as well as the dipole are operationally defined by measured quantities. In contrast, the magnetic dipole coupling will be modified by the gravitational field.
