Abstract:
The general behavior of plane orbits in a simple spiral magnetic field is studied both analytically and numerically (for a specific sample case). Techniques employed are heavily geometrical in nature and the motivation is the search for some simple conditions in the field parameters which control orbit stability and orbit economics. Pragmatic simplicity dictates a choice of approach which is only justified by a final numerical test. But reasonable rigor is accorded the fundamental equations in order to avoid getting lost from the very start.References(0)
