Abstract: (Elsevier)
The hybrid Imaging Silicon Pixel Array (ISPA) tube combines the best aspects of image intensification with new possibilities offered by integrated electronics. The anode of the ISPA tube is a matrix of small silicon pixels directly detecting with a high spatial resolution electrons emitted by the photocathode. The pixels are individually bump-bonded to an integrated electronic read-out chip, allowing high gain, high speed and low noise. This paper presents a detailed study of the single-photon detection efficiency of the tube, and concludes with perspectives offered by the development of new electronics and tube designs.- talk: Beaune 1996/06/24
