Abstract: (APS)
The binding energy of a Λ particle in nuclear matter, BΛ(∞), is calculated using a Λ-nucleon two-body potential with a hard core, which reproduces the binding energies of light hypernuclei and the Λ-nucleon scattering at intermediate energies. The simplified version of the Brueckner theory used in previous calculations is applied. The effective mass of the Λ particle, MΛ*, is estimated to be about 0.9 MΛ. The rearrangement energy is included in the calculation. The result obtained, BΛ(∞)≈31 MeV, is in good agreement with the measured value.References(16)
