Abstract: (APS)
A model is proposed in which the C12 nucleus is composed of three rigid alpha particles. Using separable alpha-alpha interactions the homogeneous Faddeev equations for the bound states reduce to a set of coupled nonsingular integral equations in one variable. Specialized to the case of only S-wave interactions, this set reduces to a single equation which is solved numerically. A ground-state solution is found, with a reasonable value for the binding energy, but no excited states. Further calculations are suggested, and an appendix containing the general angular-momentum analysis is included.References(21)
