An estimate of sigma-suppression in hypernuclear matter

Abstract: (Elsevier)
The correction to the well depth D ∧ of a ∧-particle in nuclear matter due to coupling to the Σ-channel is estimated directly from the available Σ − p → ∧n cross section data. We find that the contribution is about −6.8 MeV, with an accuracy of about 2.7 MeV. Combining this result with the estimate of Bhaduri and Law [5], we get a well depth D ∧ = 51.0 ± 15.7 MeV.
