Abstract: (AIP)
The 6 GeV accelerator at Jefferson Lab was used to perform precision studies of the neutron spin structure functions, g 1 n (x, Q 2 ) and g 2 n (x, Q 2 ) . Using a dense polarized 3He target allowed us to determine the lowest moment, Γ 1 n (Q 2 ) , for three different momentum‐transfers (< 1 GeV2) in the resonance region. Together with data from other laboratories we were able to perform a systematic analysis of higher twist effects. In addition, a first precision measurement of g 2 n outside the resonance region (W> 1.9 GeV) indicates clear evidence for higher twist contributions for Q 2 values less than 1 GeV2.
