Abstract:
This thesis describes the preparatory work for a monopole search with the ANTARES neutrino telescope. This is an underwater detector that is designed for the detection of high-energy cosmic neutrinos. The detection principle relies on the observation of Cherenkov light that is emitted by neutrino-induced muons. Unlike searches that have already been performed with other neutrino telescopes, the work presented here does not concern monopoles with velocities equal or close to the speed of light. These fast monopoles produce a Cherenkov signal in the detector that is similar to that of a muon, but which is much brighter....- thesis
