Abstract: (Elsevier)
A two-pion-exchange nuclear potential is calculated using the dispersion theory construction. The field-theoretic nucleon-nucleon amplitude has the full two-pion contribution. The description allows for the inclusion of information on the elementary processes, π N→ π N and N N →ππ . The potential is constructed by removing from the field-theoretic amplitude the iteration of the one-pion-exchange potential, for which the three-dimensional Blankenbecler-Sugar-Logunov-Tavkhelidze equation, rather than the Lippmann-Schwinger equation, is used. It is shown that the TPEP so calculated meets the requirements of being real and weakly dependent on energy. Spectral representations are derived which allow one to express the configuration space potentials as a continuous superposition of Yukawa potentials. Several models are considered corresponding to various descriptions of the elementary processes. The results, with ω- and η- exchange contributions added, are compared with phenomenological nuclear potentials. Fairly good agreement is obtained, progressively improving as further information on the elementary processes is included.- nucleon nucleon: interaction
