Giant resonances in Mg-24 and Si-28 from 240 MeV Li-6 scattering

Abstract: (APS)
Elastic and inelastic scattering of 240 MeV Li6 particles from Mg24 and Si28 were measured with the MDM spectrometer. Optical potential parameters for Li6+Mg24 and Li6+Si28 scattering systems were obtained by fitting elastic scattering with two different folding model potentials as well as W−S potentials. E0−E3 giant resonance strength distributions for Si28 and Mg24 were obtained. E0 strength corresponding to 106−24+34% of the EWSR was identified in Mg24 and 80−20+35% was found for Si28 between Ex=8.0 to 40.0 MeV.
