A general formalism for theories with spontaneously broken local symmetries is developed in the unitarity gauge. The canonical quantization procedure is carried out, leading to a set of Lorentz-covariant Feynman rules. Various special topics are discussed.- SPONTANEOUS SYMMETRY BREAKING
