Abstract: (Elsevier)
Family symmetries and grand unified symmetries can bring more structure in the mass sector of the standard model and explain the patterns in the quarks' and leptons' masses and mixing. We discuss in particular a model with a Pati-Salam x S_4 symme try. This model can explain the observed neutrino masses and mixings. Furthermore it predicts the third mixing angle @q_1_3 and the effective neutrinoless double beta decay mass to be rather large and measurable in near future experiments.References(1)
