Abstract: (Elsevier)
The COherent Muon to Electron Transition (COMET) experiment aims to measure muon to electron conversion in the field of a nucleus with an unprecedented sensitivity of less than 10^-^1^6. The need for this sensitivity places several stringent requi rements on both the beamline and detector systems. The COMET experiment was given stage 1 approval by the J-PARC Program Advisory Committee in July 2009 and work is currently under way towards preparing a technical design report for the whole experiment.References(1)
