Abstract: (APS)
Models for the production of particles at large transverse momentum are reexamined in the light of recent experimental data. A covariant analysis is given of the Berman-Bjorken-Kogut model, with a suitably general form assumed for the parton-parton scattering amplitude. An explicit model of the quark fusion type, developed in a previous paper, is recalculated using new values of a parameter obtained from data for meson production, and agrees well with those data. A model is discussed which could give copious production of protons at large transverse momentum.
