Abstract: (APS)
The internal conversion coefficients (ICC) of 18 transitions in the decay of Xe140 have been measured by the normalized electron-to-γ-ray ratio method using Si(Li) and Ge(Li) detectors. Mass-separated sources of Xe140 were obtained from the TRISTAN on-line isotope separator facility. The ICC were used to deduce the multipolarities of the transitions. Tentative spin-parity assignments have been made for 14 levels in Cs140 from consideration of the transition multipolarities and logft values deduced from the results of a previous γ-ray decay study. RADIOACTIVITY Xe140 [from U235(n,f)]; measured Eγ, Iγ for low-energy γ's, ce spectrum; Ge(Li) and Si(Li) detectors; deduced ICC, Iβ, logft, Jπ for Cs140 levels; mass-separated Xe140 activity.
