HIGH PRECISION MASS MEASUREMENTS WITH A RADIOFREQUENCY MASS SPECTROMETER -- APPLICATION TO THE MEASUREMENT OF THE PROTON -- ANTIPROTON MASS DIFFERENCE
(
  • Proposed: Nov 16, 1981,
  • Approved: Feb 3, 1983,
  • Completed: Dec, 1992
)
Uses a radiofrequency spectrometer. The resolving power of the spectrometer is around 5 x 10**5. The antiproton mass is compared with that of the H- ion in order to check the CPT theorem. (Note added July 96: The experiment was stopped in 1992 before any real data was taken, due to problems with the quality of antiproton beam).
