Job description:
The Interuniversity Institute for High Energies (IIHE) in Brussels (http://www.iihe.ac.be/) combines the experimental particle physics and astroparticle physics research groups from the two Brussels universities VUB and ULB. The IIHE is currently involved in frontier research in large international collaborations: CMS, IceCube, SoLiD, Juno, and in R&D in data acquisition systems and electronics. In the last years also a strongly-connected in-house phenomenology group has been established (http://we.vub.ac.be/en/HEPVUB). The working language is English.

The CMS team in Brussels consists of about 40 physicists, engineers and support staff. Within CMS, the IIHE group is leading numerous physics analyses and object reconstruction efforts. A CMS Grid Tier2 computing center provides ample analysis resources. On the detector side, the institute was amongst other things involved in the construction and later operation of the CMS Silicon Strip Tracker, and currently several intense activities are being developed towards the CMS phase-II upgrades. The lab observes and has observed numerous coordinating roles in the experiment.

The group has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral researcher at the side of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. We are seeking an outstanding candidate who has obtained, or is about to obtain, a PhD in experimental particle physics. A position for two years is available, with the possibility of extension.

The successful candidate will be expected to drive the group's contributions in the LHC Run-II data analysis in the area of dark matter and and/or long-lived searches, and/or take up a leading role in the tracker phase-2 preparations towards construction. He or she will be based in Brussels, with regular travel foreseen to attend collaboration meetings, workshops, and conferences.

The position is open to candidates of any nationality. The review of applications will begin on November 10, until the position is filled.

Applicants should send their curriculum vitae, a research interest vision statement, and a list of selected publications indicating their personal contributions, all in one pdf file, to Prof. Steven Lowette (steven.lowette@vub.be)
