Job description:
The Experimental High-Energy Physics group at the University of Michigan has an immediate opening for postdoctoral research fellow to work on the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN.
The Michigan group has very broad ATLAS involvement in physics analysis, detector operations and both Phase I and Phase II upgrades. We seek a person with burning curiosity about the data who will take an aggressive and entrepreneurial approach to the search for new physics. The appointment is initially to be resident at UM in Ann Arbor, but can be followed by presence at CERN. Our work on the Phase-II Muon Drift Tube system is getting underway and this is an excellent opportunity to combine physics analysis with a significant hands-on role in HEP detector building, right down the hall. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in experimental particle physics within the past two years. Prior experience at ATLAS or CMS is valuable..
Applicants should send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a 1-2 page description of research experience and philosophy, and also arrange for 3 letters of reference to be emailed to: amidei@umich.edu. Referees should comment on physics acumen and evidence of ability for creative and energetic attack on the data. Any inquiries may also be sent to this address.
Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
The University of Michigan is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.
