Measurement of the S-Wave, I=0 pi pi Scattering Length

New data are presented on the reactions π − p→ π + π − n, π − p→ π − π 0 p at 415 MeV/ c incident momentum. These data, together with events at higher momenta, are analysed using the isobar model of Deler and Valladas. The I = J = 0 ππ interactions is represented by a function of the ππ mass, and the scattering, a 0 0 , has been determined. One finds a value consistent with zero and −0.06 m π −1 < a 0 0 < 0.03 m π −1 . Certain features of the fit are investigated in terms of a rescattering graph.References(20)
